Viola Davis will play ‘Michelle Obama’ in the new Showtime series ‘First Ladies’

The Showtimes and Lionsgate Television’s new series is under development. According to reports, Viola Davis has signed for the role of Michelle Obama in the series. The upcoming one-hour drama series will enlighten the personal and political lives of First Ladies throughout history.

As per sources, the First Season will focus on the lives of First Ladies Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Michelle Obama. “First Ladies” will bring to light the most impactful and world-changing decisions taken by the First Ladies, which were hidden from the world’s view.

The Obamas are also getting into content production. Their production house Higher Ground Productions, launched last spring. The production house has been started by the Obamas with the view to educate, connect, and inspire all while touching issues of race and class, democracy and civil rights, as stated by Barack Obama.

Michelle Obama has been previously portrayed by Tika Sumpter in the 2016 Film “Southside With You”. However, Viola Davis will portray the role on TV. Davis is a very Talented actoress. She previously played the strong role of Annalise Keating in the legal drama series How to Get Away with Murder.

Viola Davis has cleared up her schedule for 2020 as her six-season fictional series comes to an end. The role comes with a lot of pressure. It will be a challenging role for Davis. However, we are also excited to see Viola Davis in the role of the First Lady as Michelle Obama.

Davis and Her spouse Julius Tennon are also non-writing Executive Producers on the project via their JuVee Productions banner.
